I think you may need to look up the definition of to "mill" something. The tumbling cage (that you refer to as a roll cage with rocks in it) is not what grinds down and mills the skillet - the rocks that the skillets tumble with just polish the already milled cast-iron.

totally - when an instrument has air leaks it tends to have a fuzzy tone, or if the leak is great enough, the note simply won't play at all or will sound quite breathy.
