After my doc had to use a metal pick to take out the hardened wax in my ear from said Q-tip usage, he told me to let the water run into each ear when I shower and that it will soften the wax and let any excess wax drain. It was a painful experience, so I am following his advice, faithfully.

Went to the doctor recently for some ear pain/muffled hearing. He told me the same thing about Q-tips and proceeded to go into my ear with a metal pick to get out the hardened wax. Oh, he got it out all right, but it was one of the most unpleasant and painful sensations I’ve experienced. Never again with the Q-tips.
