So much of it was just obvious male wish fulfillment I just never quite got how his shows became this ur example for “strong female character”.

To the extent that actual real live women connected strongly with Buffy. That would seem to be rooted in lack of options in 90's genre TV and the much better female writers he

I think the game did a better job evoking that era of Animation and it’s aesthetics and beats.

but i’m pretty sure you can create something “inspired” by any artist/art you want,

Yes. Vertical integration is total warm and fuzzy when Sony swallows their suppliers.

The regulatory take these days is more that they aren’t monopolies cause we said so.

Like Disney buying everyone isn’t a problems because like streaming will fix it or something.

So Microsoft consolidatin can’t be a problem because playing cards and day planners are a thing.

We’re good!

Well they bought Obsidian, inExile, Double Fine. And a bunch of other small studios. And Bethesda wasn’t so much a 3rd party publishing house. They almost exclusively published their own stuff, and stuff from the smaller Devs they owned. Many of which seemed to lack for support.

All of it is pretty new as well.

Just remember that Google Books is quite limited in a lot of ways. They don’t seem to have a ton of the pertinent publications. There was (and in some cases still are) a whole host of obscure industry newspapers, business press, and journals. Along with a ton of long forgotten fandom magazines that they may not be

There was some non-ephemera interest in the thing in it’s own right. Or maybe all ephemera?

They’ll just turn that photo of Stephenson into an NFT and have that write the screenplay...

That’s not generally the way this works. If I buy the original manuscript of Harry Potter, I don’t get any kind of rights to Harry Potter. I just get a particularly valuable copy of Harry Potter.

Googling the news archives circa 1975-76 doesn’t turn up anything.

. Are there actually contracts floating around with the $100K an hour figure on them? Or was this something Jodorowsky considered while he was planning the movie, never acted on, and repeated to multiple reporters because it sounded cool? A lot of the anecdotes in the doc are from Jodorowsky himself. They’re amusing

I don’t know if that’s quite the issue. Jodorowsky is borderline delusional in a lot of ways. I do think he really thought he had endless rope and funds to somehow get the ideas out of his head. When things went off the rails he might been trying to string it out.

But they were in active pre-production. Lots of money

It would’ve been entirely possible to make a Dune movie in the ‘70s.

He’s done a whole lot of fucked up shit. Part of what bothers me about the whole “Dune Genius” thing. It’s replaced a lot more coverage of the harm he caused all over in the modern conversation. Seems to have actually let him get his career going again as well.

See that’s funny cause I got this here film degree, and in all 4 years of earning it the guy didn’t come up once. Aside from as an anecdote related to Alien.

Even as plenty of filmmakers who aren’t interested in making films that make traditional sense were. Hell it’s a couple of whole subjects in it’s own right.

The

Yeah that sounds about right. Before we decided he was “Dune guy”, he had a reputation as a massive, massive prick. And it seems like almost no one has worked with him twice, he burnt a lot of financial bridges.

Plus you know rapist

That’s the thing about Jodorowsky’s Dune. If you look more closely at it than the purty pictures and some half remembered reputation of Jodorowsky as some sort of auteur. It sounds like a piece of shit.

Thing is Jodorowsky’s Dune wasn’t ever going to get made.

If you follow the history much more than wouldn’t it be rad level. The things he was planning would have been wildly expensive to film at best. To the point that no one would have allowed him to shoot them. A lot of what he had thought up would be absolutely

and while traps and poison worked for some time, the fuckers got too smart them.
