As much as i am not a fan and being forced to proceed with the story, they could take a few keys from the forced story progression for the side missions.
@Alex_Mexico: technically, he could not sustain flight... he could get airborne for enough time for his P meter to fall back down but that was it... A bit of an extended flutter jump fits... Tanooki could fly though.. So could P power.
