I feel really bad for the people of Brazil, but this is exactly what the Olympic Committee deserves.

I was about to say, there are many murderers who love this innovative “the length of the crime informs the sentence” philosophy in regards to jail time.

When I was trying to fight off a man who had forcibly grabbed and was groping me, time slowed to a fucking halt. It was probably only 5 seconds before I was able to make enough fuss to draw others’ attention and scare him off, but it felt like forever. I can only imagine what sort of hell 20 minutes of being assaulted

Not only that, but the harm didn’t stop after those 20 minutes. The woman had to have a medical exam after, she had to be exposed to the media’s take on her trauma, she had to go through a trial. Not to mention the lasting psychological effects. This father and son are both fucking garbage.

I’m a lawyer, and one of the most effective litigation tools I’ve ever learned is just how long time is. When someone says, “But I only left my kid alone for 5 minutes,” and then you force everyone to sit there in silence while you wait for 5 minutes to elapse, you realize that anything longer than like 15 seconds is

Exactly. What if those 20 minutes were someone drinking and driving and hitting his son with their car? Something tells me he wouldn’t think so little of those 20 minutes.

There are so many crimes you can commit in 20 minutes or less! Murder, mugging, burglary, assault. Literally ANYTHING. Even mass murder doesn’t take that long. I think the Sandy Hook shooting lasted about five minutes; all the shooting done at Columbine was within a 20 minute period, most of which was done in the

I can kill someone in 30 seconds. Does that mean I shouldn't be punished? Does he get that logic?

Yeah, but the kid doesn’t enjoy grilling steaks anymore. Where is your compassion for summertime BBQs and urine spiked swimming pools? RIBEYES GODDAMNIT!

I was thinking, it was 20 mins of assault but a lifetime of believing yourself entitled to take what you want and that women are less than human.

It’s depressing. Nothing in our society is ever going to change until rapists, especially those who take advantage of the vulnerable, are held accountable by their actions by everyone. Judges, parents, university administrators.

And that’s just the half of the awfulness of that particular phrase. “...20 minutes of action.” Action? He calls what his son did action? What a steaming pile of toxic sewage. (Both the father and what he said.)

I don’t know. The positive side of me thinks that even twenty years ago this guy would never have even seen the inside of a courtroom, and that the story would never have been reported on, like a million other stories just like it. That society has at least made itself willing to make a diagnosis, even if the cures

That’s what I was thinking....someone with a machine gun can kill a helluva lot of people in 20 minutes, but does that mean they shouldn’t be punished for multiple murders because it was “only a 20 minute mistake”??

Every time I read a report about someone being beaten or choked, I think about how long two minutes is when I’m stirring cake batter or kneading bread. It’s always longer than I think it will be. To imagine a child being harmed for that long, or for someone to have to look into the face of an attacker, is so

I remember when Irreversible came out and people were horrified about having to watch ten minutes of the one-take graphic rape of Monica Bellucci. It was awful and incredibly upsetting; I barely managed to sit through it.

I’m so sorry.

I was just thinking the same thing! What if someone stole his identity with a few keystrokes and voided his bank account in a matter of seconds? What if someone stalked around his house and took things of value in 15 minutes? What if a gun was fired and shot him in the head in a matter of seconds? 20 minutes can be

It would seem the rapist-acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Oh yeah, the dad is definitely a rapist. 100%.
