I recently read Ender's Game, having known almost nothing about it except that a guy I knew loved it. There's an interesting discussion I watched online between Richard Dawkins and Steven Pinker, where they brought up a few hypotheses of how homosexuality could have been evolutionarily selective. But in the end, I think they said that all of the hypotheses so far have glaring flaws, and that it's still a mystery.
