@Dogen: [www.short-codes.com] - AFAIK, it's a standard that SMS services must abide by, much like the Do Not Call list has to be respected by telemarketers.

@coodgenducta: You can enter the number at [tnid.org] to find the carrier. Might not be accurate 100% of the time, but in my experience, it has been. And I guess when/if it doesn't give you the right carrier and you try to send to that email, it will bounce back, at which point you can ask them.
@Dogen: Usually you can stop those kinds of SMS messages by replying with "STOP".
@Kemonomimi: I would, but my commute is only a 5 minute drive to work!
@drongch: Agreed. From now on, when I encounter something I think would be appropriate for a Lifehacker article, I'll post it in #tips or #openthread or something. I think all starred commenters should do the same.
@Ekstor: My comment was a sarcastic one. :P But in reality, I did consider that a possibility when I was a student (and I actually tried it when I was maybe 12 or 13).
@drongch: They actually posted it on their blog several days in advance, including a link to a forum thread with the exact date and time it would be starting.
@hxc04: I started listening to it, then realized it's almost 2 hours long. So I'll take your word for it...
For anyone using LastPass, a recent update (1.70.0) has added secure notes templates. One of these templates is for credit cards, with fields including "Name on Card", "Type", "Number", "Security Code", "Start Date", "Expiration Date", and "Notes".
You guys really should have posted this before the competition started. I have a feeling a Lifehacker would have won, had we all been notified prior to it starting. :P
@yiff: You can actually get Word to check for either 1 or 2 spaces. In Word 2003 (which is what I happen to have installed here), the setting is in Tools, Options, Spelling & Grammar tab, 'Settings...', and look at the "Spaces required between sentences" option. The default is 'don't check', but you can change it here…
@d00kiefl4kes: But that just adds a period and a single space to start the next sentence
I always thought the double-space originated from students who had to write papers with a minimum page length requirement, using that extra space to eke out some more filler.
I just saw an article with instructions for making a monogrammed cocktail: [www.frenchbuddha.com]
@ryan1313: Yes, certain versions of Google Apps allow a setting to turn off advertisements. Specifically, Google Apps for Education doesn't show ads to students, faculty, or staff: [www.google.com]
@GetOutOfBox: Yeah, I figured that's what you meant.
Alternatively, you could switch to using only Google Apps, setting your old Gmail address to forward to your Google Apps address.
@GetOutOfBox: Well said.
I don't think it's how hard the font is to read as much as it is the difference relative to fonts you're used to seeing. The relative level of activity of the posterior parietal cortex (PPC) is based on identified differences in a given visual field.
