I have no issues with the AC on mine.  It actually works really well since the cabin is tiny.  I’ve heard the complaints too, so I dont know if it’s hit or miss.

Looking at gas buddy, Hawaii gas is in the mid to high $3 range. Southern california is high $2s, low $3s. Northeast is mid $2s and the rest of the country is high $1s, low $s. So depending on where you are traveling from is slightly higher or double.
