People underestimated that if you CROWN someone a top tier QB, they don’t just magically BECOME said top tier QB.  Mayfield is young, unfamiliar with the NFL and speed, and has a lot, A LOT of work to do.

The main issue is that safety was not a #1 priority for the future.  They made this trade AFTER Ben’s injury, and before knowing any sort of outlook on that injury recovery time table.  The Steelers could have had a NICE TOP 10 pick to handle the QB situation...and as a Steeler fan, this team is lacking a lot of depth…
