Or they could just film it in Toronto or Vancouver, which could be any American city.

I was kind of under the impression that Divergent was a parody of all the dystopian YA fiction, but publishing and Hollywood missed the joke and took it seriously.

In many shots, you can see (a) Toronto buses; (b) the Toronto skyline complete with CN Tower; (c) Canadian banks like CIBC and the Bank of Montreal; (d) Canadian subway stations. Lots of the one-episode actors have accents, too.

It is filmed in a quarry in Toronto, so you're already getting the best of both worlds.

Last week's episode was filmed in the Toronto subway system mocked up as Grand Central but they still had TTC signs in the background.

Yes in the window the medical supply store! BMO Harris is a thing in the US, but I've never seen a BMO in New York.

Actually, the most jarring part of all was that nobody's credit card was working. Thanks to the foresight of Interac, this would never be a problem in Canada.

Any other Torontonians out there find it distracting that the show is clearly filmed in Toronto? Those subway scenes from last week and this were particularly jarring.

Why does everything good need to be British? Some British stuff is very good, to be sure, but American television knocks British TV out of the water, to use an American turn of phrase.

The thing is, though, that none of that comes through from the conversation. They start off by saying they think everything is hunky dory with Tywin. From our conversations with Tywin, we know Tywin has every intention of paying off the Bank as soon as he can. They explicitly reject Stannis' proposal as a bad bet.

First, I would be kind of surprised if the Iron Bank knew that the Lannisters were out of gold because:

The Bank's reasoning at the beginning of the loan interview seems to be "The War is over. Tywin is in charge. Why do we need to risk that by going in with some idiot with 4,000 soldiers on a barren rock in the middle of the sea?"

The problems with the argument are these:

It's not the same banker. Noho Dimittis is the Bank's messenger to Cersei who gets brushed off. Tycho Nestoris is the Bank's messenger to Castle Black who, when he finds out Stannis isn't there, heads south in a snowstorm to find him.

Davos: Hey, Iron Bank, all your money is tied up in Westeros, and since they're having a war, you'll never see it again!
Iron Bank: The war's over.
Davos: It's not over as long as Stannis still draws breath!
Iron Bank: Uh, that Stannis over there?
Davos: Yes.
Iron Bank: The Stannis currently standing in our office?
Davos:

Ah, good, thanks.

I'm not the only one who thinks Tywin let the whole trial go through just so he could get Jaime to drop out of the Kingsguard, right? He said "done" to Jaime's deal much too quickly and looked altogether super satisfied. I bet if Tywin didn't want the trial he could have told Cersei to shut it, and cover the whole

Can someone explain to me why it is that the scheming characters like to stand in the empty throne room and just gaze longingly at the throne for no reason? They do know it looks fucking suspicious, right?

I wonder how much of the production budget is wasted filming on location in exotic locales. Pay someone to write dialogue.
