They're all the fuck over the place in Arizona. Things don't rust down here, and people love putting huge rims on their trucks (and anything, for that matter). I literally see one or two on the daily.

It was probably the exact same kind. I searched around for info on it to see if I could salvage it, and every resource just said "no". I think they were known to just call it a day after a few years- possibly due to the fact that they were mounted in the non-climate-controlled and possibly leaky trunk.

I totally agree. In the future, a large part of a car manufacturer's reputation will be based on exactly what you described. I don't know if that would fall under the category of "reliability," but it's definitely going to become a factor, similar to the whole infotainment issue currently.

I bought a '94 Pontiac with a trunk mounted changer once, but it never worked. My aunt had a Lexus ES from the early 2000s that had the changer in the glove box, which makes 10x more sense.

Just get a CD changer installed in the trunk like the good ole days!
