I mean, I do think that. It’s not about the fine to me, it’s about the perceived severity of the infraction. One is going faster than you should, the other is totally ignoring an indication of who has the right of way. Granted a stop light that’s not at an intersection but the perception is the same to me simply by

I go over the speed limit fairly regularly but running a red seems like a significantly more severe infraction to me. I’ve never run a red in my entire life. I would absolutely stop for this thing but I don’t always slow down for speed indicator signs.

I agree - this is making the assumption that whites and blacks play loud music the same amount. That is NOT a valid assumption. I live in Florida. And I am black. And I am going to say that easily 80% of the time, if a car rolls up next to me with the music booming at 5000dB, it’s a young black guy playing some awful

This. Sound deadening in modern cars is much better than it was even 10 years ago. Even the Dodge Charger is hard to hear what's going on outside, and it's debatable if that's modern.

No, yes, maybe, dunno. I’m guessing that because the law states that the police officer has to hear the music from at least 25 feet away, that’s currently considered good enough, until someone actually challenges it in a court of law. And they won’t want that to happen, coz then it’ll show the specific law for what it

A huge chunk of Florida drivers, those of the elderly variety, can’t hear emergency vehicles without the distraction of the radio anyway. Even then, you can probably count to Five Mississippi before they figure out how to get out of the damned way. If the issue is safety, is it entirely fair to crack down harshly on

The increasingly ‘pill-box on Normandy’ design language associated with modern cars.

says a guy who is defending folks that crap in shrubs and throw their trash everywhere.

it’s clear to me that this is less about a general parking problem and more about a homeless-people-living-in-their-vehicle problem,

If these guys took care off the environment they lived in, then this probably wouldn’t have happened.

As someone who does bike track days, this is horrifying. If this happened in a novice track day group, someone would have been dead.

What a shitshow. Mercedes was expecting a 5 second penalty. Aston told him to get at least a 5 second gap to make that moot. He opened a 5+ second gap to Russell. He takes the podium. They give him a 10 second penalty no one saw coming or expected. Russell takes 3rd after podium ceremony. And everything after.

Outright tattoo exceptions are just plain dumb the last about 5-10 years and a clear sign you likely work at place with bad management. Any 18 year old that got a tattoo between 1980-1999 is now 40-60 years old (when tattoos arguably became mainstream). The tattoo/goth/emo scenes of ink, hair color, and pricings is

Tattoos are no longer punk. I have my generation (X) to thank for that as we made getting ‘a’ tattoo a normal thing. But that started a tattos arms race (ha!) where people that would get a tattoo would get a few to stand out, those that would get a few got a sleeve, those that would get a sleeve would cover

Was YouTube too good for GMG? You had to use a proprietary media player? Did you think that would be what finally gets us to turn off our ad blockers?

Yeah those are also like total 8KM of lines. I think the longest one is 3KM. They are specifically to get over the hills and cut down the commute from rual areas to the city. It shaves off like 2.5 hours of commute time as opposed to riding the bus around the hills. Including the 45 minute queues to get on them. This

No space in SLC?

The scammers have been out in force these last few years trying to capitalize on the new eco pedestrian urbanism movement. The Hyperloop, that stupid train pod thing, flying taxis, and now a gondola.

Just build some fucking trains. Proper long distance rail, light rail, metros, and raised track systems.

There is active talk of bringing one of these systems to our city. Instead of just building out a proper underground system (they are building a grade level system currently that is choking off whole segments of the city by removing roads, as it is), they are being blinded by the vanity of the cable car.
