I actually kind-of liked The Force Awakens. The plotting and visuals were a letdown, but I was upbeat to see what happened next. I don’t think you’re really addressing my points with the glasses thing: you could say that about anyone who doesn’t like something you do, and rose-tinted spectacles are just as likely.

You know, I could live with their story choices - the coincidence, the non-sequiturs, the dropped threads - if the films held up as works of visual imagination. “Refuted” means proved incorrect. I think you mean “disagreed with”. But I will now refute your points. The flaws of the movie are not all of a piece: there are many things wrong with it that aren’t all connected. That’s not “a changing argument”, more “an embarrassment of riches”.

Weirder still to half-ass their own efforts with a rushed production schedule, leave directors to their own devices, and openly invite comparison to two movies that are just plainly better, all the while hectoring the audience…
