Garage 54 tried this with a RAV4 and they couldn’t break it. If I recall correctly they had to disable all kinds of sensors for it to happen at all.

Thanks for the info. That’s about as bizarre as I was expecting, so basically there’s no way to actually fix a set without swapping parts. Which does explain as you say, why the supplier wasn’t keen to do it.

As Jason replied it all came down to meeting emissions. At that time they were already developing the water cooled, front engine, front wheel drive line that took over. It just made sense to drop the multiple looming issues with increasing emissions regs and change lanes.
