Oil burner is for the Aussie market basically. For about 90% of the country you can only rely on getting diesel so it’s just a necessity.

Full disclosure: I did a total rebuild on a VW 1600 flat 4 one time, was about to mount the flywheel when I noticed I hadn’t installed the camshaft core plug. For anyone not familiar with these it requires a total strip down and split the crankcase to be able to install it. Four hours later I put the flywheel on.

A friend of mine bought one of these in the late 70's, it was a year or two old at that time. His was white and ton of fun to thrash around twisty country roads.

With one wheel off the ground the other has no torque across the differential. This is why you can get bogged when one wheel is in soft sand or mud and spins freely, the other goes nowhere. And why locking or limited slip diffs are needed off road. 

I guess it doesn’t help the tone when the poppy that features is the same used worldwide as the symbol of Remembrance Day. 

Going by the VW’s there, very late 50's or early 60's. Quite a few bugs can be seen and several have the large rear window that came in from ‘58 onwards, but also quite a few oval rear windows which were used up to ‘58. With that mix a good guess would be 59-63 kinda period.

Sorry to be off topic and somewhat flippant, but it just struck me that there’s another Elizabeth who’s famous for her use of “My husband and I”.

Surely it’s not just me seeing this, split that pack down the middle and put half under each row of seats.

Also cooling, don’t ever forget these massive banks of batteries get really hot when discharging and fast charging. If you have fiddly blocks all over the structure it’s going to create a plumbing nightmare. A big advantage in the skateboard is the (relatively) simple cooling layout.
