Sailing into a slip with no power blows my mind. I had one of my two engines go out on a recent trip and it was a pain to dock with just the one engine. Agreed it would be a sight to see one of the old sailing ships dock with no assistance at all.

Yeah it’s terrifying across the board. Imagine your average 80 year old person. Now imagine that for the past 30 years they haven’t had to drive a car, or buy groceries, or cook. They don’t even need to read because they have a bunch of 20 year olds read for them and then tell them what it’s about. The closest thing…
This. High speed stability in things like lane changes I think is the biggest reason they do this (of course it helps with parking too). It’s why the direction the wheels turn is speed dependent.
I used to like sunroofs but now not so much. If I want open air, take the convertible. I maybe open the sunroof once a year on my sedan, if that, and I’m sure your average RR owner has way more cars to pick from than me.
The correct answer is Wraith. That’s the one I’d have out of the fleet. Or one of the old Phantom Dropheads if I wanted to be ostentatiously ridiculous.
So much this. We switched to a projector setup ages ago with a 110” screen. If you want to physically go to a theater that’s one thing but we certainly aren’t missing anything in the audio visual category. We even picked up a second cheaper projector to run outside. If you’re open to having a dedicated, and dark, room…
I think this targets 1) people with so much money they don’t care or 2) people who don’t want, or have the resources, to commit to a long term lease. A 911 lease or purchase is more than I would drop on a car but 8k to have one for a summer I could get on board with. It is cheaper per day to rent an apartment in NYC…
Having a cool wife is the best. Mine flew me to Germany and rented me a 911 to drive from Munich to Stuttgart on the autobahn to visit the Porsche museum. And was then cool enough to stay calm as I drove 250+kph in the pouring rain.
I know you put quotes on better when talking about the 911 vs a Corvette but I think that is a poor heritage example as they both have it. Also, the only place where a Corvette comes close to a 911 is on a track in the hands of a very competent driver. Drive them back to back and the 911 blows the Corvette’s doors off…
I was thinking maybe the engines went out and then they drifted onto it but nope. Sounds like they just ran right into it so I have to agree, how the hell do you let that happen?
I read the link. This protects platforms like IG from being liable for content that is shared on them. Ie: if you put up a photo I have a copyright on I can’t sue IG but I can sue you. There’s nothing in your link (that I can see) that removes ownership of content, it only assigns ownership/liability to the poster not…
So much this. I remember this add so clearly and although it was for a car I had zero possible interest in, it somehow captured this weird inexplicable cool that appealed to the high school me. Still does. Really wish this car had been half as cool as the previous generation.
Tom - you are spot on with your F-Type recommendation, perfect pick. If he wants a little more space and comfort his budget comfortably gets him an XK as well. I even found a 2015 XKR just inside his budget in Carlsbad CA.
Wow, that Lexus is ugly, like just awful. The BMW is a decent choice but kind of bland. The Jaguar F-Type is a great choice and I think meets your criteria as well, except for the hard top. I know people like to bust on reliability but they’re not bad - I’d trust it as much as the BMW. I think Tom was right on the…
Maybe not as an individual vehicle but as a species, yes they do. Some will talk about it being a proving ground for tech that goes mainstream later (it is) but more so than that it creates a dream. I grew up with Ferrari and Lambo posters on my wall. Will I ever own one? Maybe, but I sure won’t be buying them new and…
Yep. CP here, goes for $15k on BaT. I used to really enjoy that site (still enjoy looking) but the prices things go for there seem way too high. Maybe I just have no idea what cars are worth but I don’t think the going price there is reflective of true market value for a lot of those cars.
Maybe, but we’re getting into personal decisions then and there are a huge number of variables as to what makes sense for this person. If we take as a given that this person is selling the Outback and then leasing/buying a new car the question is how much equity should be rolled into it. The financially savvy answer…
Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads. Well, unless there’s wires or trees or stuff. Then we’ll need roads. Good point Marty.
This. A Nice clean MR2 would be more fun and mean more to car people. I’m not sure if you’d actually trick anyone into thinking this is a Ferrari, but even if you did they’d stop liking you pretty quickly when they realized you didn’t have the house and everything else they assumed went along with this car. It’s like…
Agreed. This list is so depressing. Have a small/cheap econo box for the masses then have a big box for people who have large families or that need to haul or tow stuff. Done. Now that we’ve covered everyone who isn’t a car person we can use the other three spots for fun stuff. I’m thinking sports car (911) and…
