Real mature, George

Pretty lame comment there buddy

"Some responsibility" sounds about right.

I disagree with your logic. LBJ deserves blame for Vietnam, but not for Cambodia. You can't say "Clinton's impeachment proceedings lowered public esteem for Al Gore enough for GW Bush to win the election in 2000, therefore Clinton is to blame for Iraq"

That's a reasoned response. I get you there

Fucking hell what a movie that is

Ugh Life is Beautiful. I forgot how fun The Holocaust was until I saw that movie

As much as I hate to say it, most "British" films are just the posh-accented arm of Hollywood. Britain hasn't had a self-sustaining film operation for decades

Using standards enacted in, say, 1900 about what made someone a good or
bad guy, yeah it's hard to say. But by the 1940s area bombing of civilians
was not an evil action. In a war of production, after all, the
civilians who go into the bomb factories are combatants too. It was a true total war.

The fact that Stalin was a bad guy on the side of the good guys doesn't change the fact that were indeed good guys, and there were indeed bad guys

I honestly didn't mean it like that. I just get annoyed that people confuse the watchable, acceptably-made Strangers Things, 13 Reasons Why, etc. for artistically brilliant productions

For fucking real. Competition is often good, but right now it's just means I need Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon at a bare minimum when I used to just need Netflix

They make a lot of mediocre ones that get overpraised in our current era of "Critics like everything that isn't sexist"

I'm still being strung along too, but Amazon gets most of my business these days. I'd rather rent movies I want to see for 2.99 a pop than watch Turner and Hooch just because it's on Netflix

Agree 100%. For people like me (and probably you) they are just markedly worse. I used to be able to see pretty much anything I wanted. Now they don't give a shit about people like me. They want the person who wants to watch any movie, not a *particular* movie. Or better yet, some shitty TV show they made

I don't blame Netflix necessarily. Objectively I admire them for their far-sighted approach to the market and shrewd manipulation of it. But as a film fan who realizes that their company has gotten WORSE at what they offer and made it harder to watch movies than in, say, 2007, it sure makes me upset

Remember when Netflix was a company that allowed you to see any movie you had ever wanted to see? *Sighs* Those were good days

"The cape-and-tentpole franchise model’s dependence on exhausting, super-saturated, sycophantic hype"

Personal tragedy that occurred to your friends has so bearing on the situation. Don't judge the past by the values of the present. It's fallacious and foolish

You're a simple sort, aren't you?
