It boils down to intent, doesn’t it?

press corps wasn’t forced to submit their questions beforehand.

It is also important from a rhetorical standpoint to differentiate between a statement that is a lie and a statement that is simply inaccurate. President Trump and his ilk deal in the former. Many others will put forth the latter, at times, yet will wind up labeled as the former, which is not constructive.

when you watch her and think she’s dumb...she’s not talking to you

And conveniently, they can hide all this behind a label of “Constitutional Originalism.”

What I like is white people proclaiming themselves to not be racist. Do they also look in the bathroom mirror and conclude that they are not ugly? (White man writing here...)

Or that an empirical observation that one person _looks_ different from another, is “divisive.”

David, this is a very impressive piece. Great detail, very concise, exhaustively thorough, but approachable explanations. As well, the piece looks to be very well and thoroughly proofed. Thorough, polished work. Nicely done.

As a SWM, on this, perhaps I should just keep my mouth shut, but I have always found DeGeneres’s personality grating. It’s difficult for me to put a finger on it. Just kind of pushy, kind of self-centered, kind of clangorous. Now, I would expect anybody reading this comment to be suspicious that perhaps I really don’t

Why don’t they just ship it on an external drive or a SD wafer?

I want mine more subdued though. But yeah.

I only wish it were a third-gen body. But yes, otherwise ideal, though I might be tempted to swap out the transmission for something more highway-oriented.

Interesting story. My cousin treated all the concrete in his (giant) new garage and basement. All new slab.

Good writing, Max.

David, this is what your piece lacked:

I wish you’d spent some time discussing any maintenance issues they’d had over the years. This is a glaring omission, IMO. Certain transmissions made of glass, likelihood of shedding timing chain gears, whatever. That’s the jalop stuff that I want to know about.

Leases can make sense? New certainly doesn’t. I own six cars and the newest it a 2012. There’s a ‘91, a ‘97, a(n) ‘00, an 11 and a 12. And a ‘71... I do own a tent trailer that I purchased off a lot, an ‘07. If I had the means to spend $40+ on a vehicle, I’d buy one two years old and save $10k.

With Hertz about to liquidate its fleet, who wants to buy new?
