I knew a guy in the early 80s who had a CJ with a 304 V8. At the time, I was a fairly inexperienced driver, but I thought it was insanely overpowered for the length of the wheelbase. I found it unnerving to drive. I think it had a 4 sp with granny.

I had one of those. I replaced the transaxle with a unit from a VW Quantum; much smoother and higher top end. Very successful mod.
