There is a silver lining here: ladies, he’s single!
I was going to post a snarky comment, but WAIT WHAT you had a brother in law who died like this?
Oh, American Splendor was so good. It was almost life-changing - a guy who was kind of a nebbish, had a job in the records department at the VA, who took pen to paper and not just survived, but thrived, and had a big community of talented friends and collaborators. You don’t see movies about people like that very…
Harding?
Yes, in California we just say bar for a place that mostly serves booze. Then we have brew pubs. The “if it’s got windows, then it’s probably OK to bring your kids” is a good rule of thumb. I’m still sad when the Dugout in downtown San Jose got windows put in and turned into a fern bar, and that was at least 25 years…
I’ve seen kids at <redacted> pub in <redacted, because it might not be legal and I don’t want to cause problems for the owners>. I know the parents and I know the kids. It’s cozy. It’s kind of a British-style pub anyway. My only drawback is I sometimes forget to watch my language (edit, see that somebody covered that…
I like Richard Feynman, as he was as practical as a theoretical physicist can get, and he was at so many important points of the 20th century, for good or ill, such as the Manhattan Project and the Challenger disaster. His explanations are also as close to an understanding of physics as I’m likely to get.
No, as we say in the tech support world, PEBCAK (problem exists between chair and keyboard).
I’m actually glad you didn’t get that reference, it means his sell-by date has already passed.
I drank some beers with Ice-T at Shoreline Pavillion in Mountain View, when Body Count played at Lollapalooza, too many years ago. Well OK, he was like 10 feet away in the beer garden, with the Wu-Tang Clan, but that was my brush with greatness and I thought it was kind of cool he hung out there with us. I ended up…
I’d pay for a podcast that expanded on this inter-furry rivalry. Somehow the hygeine issue is worth discussing, too, like how often they clean their suits, or if they clean their suits.
A lot of writers used handwriting during the era of typewriters. Writers don’t make any sense.
A gaijin Stewart from Beavis and Butthead. I would love to see Jared with a Stryper t shirt not covering the edges of his full back tattoo, saying “can I hang out with you guys?”
Powers made a great Jim Jones, he deserved it just for that, although that was a made for TV movie I believe
Don’t forget Canada, with the twofer of First Nations and the Inuit.
I keep forgetting that Joseph Cotten was not in the film version of The Philadelphia Story, just the Broadway version. Imagine what a film that would have been. I think of Cotten as the Midas of films - Citizen Kane, the Third Man, the Magnificent Ambersons, Airport ‘77....
Yes, damn that waitstaff and their 28k a year and not claiming 2k in tips! Everybody else in the free market pays their fair share, all the way up to the president and his family!
It’s almost like an actor can play different parts and make them believable!
Here’s a cheery thought I’ve been having lately: it’s Mueller time!
