I drove this yesterday on my way home and saw all those cars. I used to live a few blocks from there. That section of Newark hasn’t really done anything except decay since the the 1967 riots, so it’s a perfect fit for 80's grunge look ala the original Robocop movie. 

Most people do not need or want a highly appointed vehicle. They want a ‘cool’ vehicle. Something they would be happy to show to their friends or be seen driving. The way that most OEM’s configure their line up, if you want ‘cool’, you have to shell out for the highly appointed vehicle. This isn’t necessary for anyone…

it looks different. people pay extra for different. Think people buy Prii or Teslas because they’re efficient or they’re trying to save the world? Buyers of those cars just want to rub everyone else’s nose in their cool car, which is the greatest single reason for pretty much all car sales that aren’t base model…

it’s not just the luxury end of the truck market that’s driving the pricing, the big 3 are gouging the prices to make up for the blood loss on everything else. Even the most basic F250 4x4 with vinyl, seats, roll-up windows, radio only (who listens to radio anymore?) will set you back $40k.

this is what the S3 should have been.
