Thanks for letting me borrow your car, Russel!

Your response solidified (an already really damn solid foundation) why I dig the rally community.

The steel does look rather thin to me, but usually in structural automotive applications thinner steel is often stronger steel making the strength of the part as good or better, but that strength also changes other properties. The steel wheel was likely heat treated and/or of a composition where the yield and

It was not my car so I was being quite respectful I think. The car owner was riding with me and didn't have any negative comments or concerns. Never hit any cones that day. There were huge ruts in the muddy sections that caught the front bumper each run and one side of the bumper had pulled out of its mount on one

This was my very first time on dirt and I was taking it easy since I was driving someone else's car. That was a pretty tricky off camber corner where the car really wanted to understeer. I would have been more aggressive with the handbrake if it were my ride. Looking forward to getting some more experience on dirt

When you tore up the fields, was it timed? Were you concerned about personal safety or the safety of others? There are cars spaced out on the same track, so the horn was to alert the corner workers that something was wrong and that we would not be moving and let them wave the red flag so that the next car behind us

Back in the '50s and '60s NASCAR teams ran steelies with a second center welded over the first for strength.

In that case you must have had some really thin, substandard steel wheels. I've seen steel wheels bent so bad that they looked like they belonged on a clown car and none of them ever disintegrated like that from being driven hard. Of course thinking about it, my experience is not with foreign cars/wheels (not dissing

The car is actually owned by my buddy Russell Shireman and occurred this past weekend. Ryan was driving this run and I believe also put the video together and posted it up. As far as damage goes the Subie was pretty lucky. Aside from the wheel the only other mentionable damage was the fender.

Next time I'm sure they'll be able to get the road course at Indy to do a rallycross event at the grassroots level for total beginners. /s

Ahem. Wants to know who the awesome girl who checked him in is. (Yoga Pants + Checking in Drivers + Caught him trying to start an already running car and made timely 'not too condescending' comment but still totally hilarious + has a great smile).

God damn rallycross looks fun.

I agree, I thought it was him until you mentioned it might not have been.

The youtube page says it is Chris from Four Car Garage Motorsports.

It's all fun and games until your wheel comes off. But damn, it sure looked like fun and games until that wheel came off.
