Blame Oprah, not Jenny McCarthy. If not for Oprah, most peoples' only exposure to Jenny McCarthy would be when she was doing the exposing.

Sounds like a good opportunity for someone to open an vaccinated-only daycare.

It's still stupidity, tho, just not ignorance.

It seems that first lady's daughter is a lot brighter than her. Hopefully this doesn't screw up her studies too badly and she gets her mom out of her life after graduation.

I love that scene (my favorite of Michael Biehn's career) but it always irked me that it appears the SEALs inflict zero casualties. Even given their shitty position, there's no way they're missing all the Marines once the shooting starts. The last man up even has a bit of time to fire while not being marked.

I'm with you on that. Amazing opening scene to that movie.

Gun kata. MFing gun kata.

I'm pretty sure the Vatican is just as appalled by Carrot Top and Mickey Rourke as the rest of us are.

I give the readers here more credit than a lot of others do (at least, other people who started with a different Gawker site, like me). Plus it's a pretty good advantage of my privilege that even if I got completely shouted down and flamed, I wouldn't be afraid of them coming after me personally. Not everyone gets

Thanks :) I blame any logical behavior on my part on alcohol and luck.

I'm glad your ex was able to help you out in that situation!

Correct, but actually receiving a THREAT of SWATting is probably better than just being SWATted without warning. You can contact the police to inform them and there should be a record they can reference before they send the team out.

I agree, it absolutely should not be ignored by the authorities. However, it WAS ignored.

I suppose that would be the libertarian's argument. My point is simply that if the police cannot/will not protect you, and the threat is real, having another defense to the threat is a good idea.

First, that's correlation, not causation. Second, I'm generally against owning "defensive" firearms absent the presence of a threat. However, in the presence of a threat, your only real option is to protect yourself if the cops won't.

Completely reasonable (and I suspected the NY thing, which was the reason for the second sentence). I just don't know what other options are really available when the cops can't/won't do anything.

Who is Detective Carson?

I assume Durant didn't play in the Garden? I don't remember him having a scoreless game.

In most of the country, the answer to the title question would be "Purchase a firearm; learn how to use it." I'm not sure if that option's available to you, though.

Even the Vogons are appalled.

I'm hurt by the lack of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3.
