Why is it that when men identify as bisexual, lots of people think that they're gay but in denial, and when women identify as bisexual, lots of people think that they're straight but in denial? (I think it might have something to do with penises.)

My wife's a resident, and my experience (second-hand, but still) is that everyone loves derm/surg (except gen surg?)/anasthesia, and the ROAD specialties. $$$ + prestige. I don't think OB gets dumped on for any reason other than it's sub-surgical and pays less.
