Thanks for the refresher! That's definitely the one I was thinking of.

Agnes Grey already noted the diversity in casting (I read about doing an equivalent of the Bechtel test with race and it seems like Grey's Anatomy would pass there, too), so I'm going to add: Body positivity. (At least among the cast. There might have been an episode where some of the interns were pretty unkind to a…
Most jobs require us to not be bitchy. But in untipped positions, my paycheck doesn't vary based on my day-to-day ability to meet this expectation. If I have the occasional bad day, I don't lose pay. If on average I'm a poor worker, then sure. I don't get a raise or bonus, or I get fired, etc. But that occasional…
Good point. Definitely not equivalent choice sets. Men can choose working outside the home or being a stay at home parent. Neither option has them assuming primary responsibility for both income generation and child-rearing. Women can choose being a stay at home parent or working and still doing all the things a…
Yeah, I know. There are definitely more NY'ers exposed to the cold than here, so on an aggregate level, sure. If you measure the typical experienced AM or PM commute temperature* for every resident in the Twin Cities and in New York City and then compute regional averages, New York would probably be MUCH colder…
Yes, it's true that transit service in cities is much better than in rural areas (understatement of the year), but that doesn't invalidate my point. You said that we can't complain because we aren't walking 10 blocks and then waiting 20 minutes for the bus. But many of us in MN are in fact walking 10 blocks and then…
Right. Because that's sooooo relevant to a discussion about men sabotaging women's birth control. How you'd be pissed if your partner were taking birth control without your knowledge (permission?). What the hell is wrong with you?
Thanks for sharing the link. I'm going to rant about the article here because I fear the wrath of commenters over there.
Yes. This. This is a bob. These actresses clearly need Tobias as their style guide.
Hah! I'm guessing your college was in St. Paul. Getting between the two cities if your trip isn't specifically downtown to downtown is such a headache. I used to have to commute from Uptown to Selby/Dale, and it was 55 min biking or 1:15 by bus... but it's so cold!! Hope you're living somewhere warmer now.
Interesting! Thanks for sharing.
Didn't see that in their paper, but I'll go back and re-read it.
Enjoy DC! I was just there last week, and while I totally wasn't prepared for rain, I can't tell you how wonderful it was to not have to wear as many layers or my marshmallow jacket. Sigh. Wishing you could teleport me to DC so I wouldn't have to walk to the bus and wait around for 15 minutes now... /Minnesota…
Some of the cyclists are probably forced into it, but I do know quite a few who love it. One of my friends said she'd rather have it be -3 and sunny than 19 and snowing because it's clearer for biking and she doesn't do the studded tire thing. I used to work for BWTC and our monthly counts showed that about 1 in 5…
I live in Minneapolis without a car. I regularly have to walk 1/4 to 1/2 mile for transit, or 1 mile from place to place. Yes, even when it's -3 degrees, which I think was the high on Monday.
Oh god. I wish it were 19 here. That sounds wonderful. Almost sweatshirt weather. We haven't had double digits in days, and have had very few hours even above 0. /minnesota
Do you have a link to what you were reading about double blind peer review? I've always thought double blind is kind of BS.
The study authors in the original article didn't bother to do that. How their study got through peer review and into a journal is beyond me. So we can rest assured that it's not Katie's reporting that's the problem here.
