I mean, I want a ‘different form’ - I don’t want one that says ‘bride and groom’ because neither my partner nor I will be the bride (well, everyone will call me the bride because yay sexism and patriarchy being used to bully an effeminate man!) and we’d like a marriage certificate that reflects that - but neither

Your exact same logic can be applied to the people who still want the “traditional” bride/groom designation. Are their lives so problem-free as well? Why is it okay for them to insist it be one way and care about the “small shit”, but it's not okay for people who have been discriminated against for a long time to want

Obviously she understands, don’t be an asshole. She’s just pointing out how fucking stupid it is, as a tradition.

I’m saying! This is not a difficult thing, there is an easy and obvious solution.

New York’s marriage license application was delightfully gender neutral. Two columns, one for each party, and the top of both columns said “Bride/Groom/Spouse”. Easy-peasy.

OR GROOM GROOM BRIDE BRIDE PERSON PERSON YOU PICK

The problem is: then why can’t there be a form that says “bride and bride” or “groom and groom”? Just because you’re gay doesn’t mean you *want* to be referred to as “First party” or “Second party.” Those are just gender neutral forms, which is cool too if that’s what you want. Women call their spouses wives. Men call

It’s kind of like they want to put a little asterisk next to same-sex marriages as if to say “this is not a real bride-groom marriage!”

Why forward when you can print it, walk over to the fax, load it, dial, hope it connects, wait for it, grab your papers, shred them, and walk back to your desk? Easy peasy.

She offered to fax her emails. FAX. Her EMAILS. Smdh.

she makes $70,000 a year but doesn't know how to forward an email?

Remember, separate forms makes it so much easier to invalidate marriages en masse if they find a loophole or manage to rightward shift SCOTUS again. Or worse.

Davis originally offered to fax them, writing, “I am old school on this email stuff.”

They want “separate and lesser”, but will settle for the appearance of equal.

This confirms my suspicion that county courts are single-handedly keeping the Fax Machine industry alive.

All this seems to reveal with the dual licensing is that much of Kentucky still subcribes to “separate but equal."

I am so done with Kim Davis and Kentucky clerks. Just do your goddamn job.
