Peralta: 100x more idiotic.
Amy: Literally gets turned on by spreadsheets at this point.
Rosa: Grrrrr angry lady, unless v serious bisexual plots come up, or explicably not angrylady-like because it’s funny
Holt: Has an out-of-character emotional outburst every other episode because those were always funny back when they

Pimento’s great. Always fun to have him around.

One thing from LaToya’s review that I think deserves a comment is the fact that this show, from its inception, has relied on two pillars to keep it from drifting off into crazyland (y’know, aside from a rock solid cast):

1. Jake is actually good at his job. If he was’t

Tahani’s reunion with her parents is what hit me the hardest. I have my own parental hangups that I won’t get in to. But, hearing them tell her (and her sister) “we are eternally sorry for what we did” broke me because I know that’s an apology I’ll never get.

Chidi revealing he was ready to leave so many Jeremy Beremy’s ago but stayed to be with Eleanor was the one part that really wrecked me

My favorite thing about the end was that each character got their own focus, specifically Eleanor and Chidi. I was half expecting them to walk through the door together, but that would have been unfair to each of them. I love that Eleanor wasn’t ready when Chidi was, and her leaving many Bearimys later was not

My money was originally on reincarnation, but yeah.

Satirizing Obama-era political negotiations—i.e., repeatedly compromising your position in the vain hope that Republicans evil demons who just want to fuck you over will eventually sign on was just...*chef’s kiss*. That bit, and the surprise Olyphant cameo (and his weird tendency to interrupt everyone) meant that this

January Jones to her agent: “you know, I think Betty Draper was too warm and nurturing a mother; how about a change of pace?”

Amy will have to live her whole life knowing that she is Laurie's second choice after Jo. I think that's pretty sad and exactly the sort of sacrifice the movie talks about women making all the time.

I don’t know if you’ve seen it yet but Jo makes a comment in this version about Amy always escaping the hard parts of life. I laughed at the line as a youngest child myself.

I got the idea that she’s looking for things to complain about so she can sabotage herself. Of course she can work with tape on the floor, but if she says she can’t do that or any of a thousand other things, maybe the director will get fed up and call the whole thing off, and she gets out of the play without it being

Abe seems to have adjusted more than Rose to the idea that Midge is serious about her comedy career, and I like that, with that in mind, he’s going to encourage her to be responsible with the influence she has.

Having Midge face her privilege against a backdrop of the 60s civil rights movement has always been one of the wider themes in the show, and it’s the kind of thing you can only really develop slowly over a number of series. Hell yeah she’s a good person deep down, but she’s going to have to get her comeuppance

I understand what you are saying. I’ve just had it with Midge’s willful ignorance. She is a sharp lady who could choose to be more aware. She just doesn’t care. At all.

I loved that line from Abe. He so often talks without saying anything germaine to anyone but himself, but that was so on point about Midge needing to use her voice carefully. It’s a lesson we all need to remember from time to time.

Can we give props to Wanda Sykes as Moms Mabley!

Interesting. I thought it was clear that Mei was intimidated by Midge and that Midge could have done the kind thing and just...wish her the best? Rather than one-upping her and then going on stage to perform a very personal act about her relationship with Joel without anyone’s permission?

I’m fine with the show turning on Midge.  She is after all based on Joan Rivers, and for all Joan Rivers talent and her importance to women in Comedy she was also a narcissistic asshole who’s entire late career was saying terribly awful things about people.  Of course they could have called Suzie to cancel her

On the one hand, I do agree with Arielle that the comedy has seemed a lot less sharp than Midge’s early stuff. Some of her sets this season have frankly been about the same level as the male comedians she mocked back in the day, just without being misogynistic.

I’m so glad that we get so much Moishe and Shirley this season. This is my favorite thing Kevin Pollack’s ever done. The interactions between all of them are so goddamn funny. It just destroys me. Walking around pants-less and launching into passive-aggressive rants on every possible subject. That beat where Zelda
