I was really disappointed in their reaction, too! I think it’s ok to say Franken could have rightly demanded an ethics investigation, but I feel like everyone is overlooking the fact that if 8 different people (eight!) even if one of them is kiiiiinda shady, reported this behavior about a coworker in an office, that

Take your douchebaggery to another site

Good point! “He was creeping on all women, not just Tweeden!” is not really a good defense if you think about it.

I listened to the same broadcast, and yeah, it sounded like they were bending over backwards to rehabilitate this guy and make the case for why he should’ve been allowed to remain in the senate and get a proper hearing.

I listened to Hysteria (a Crooked podcast), which is ostensibly feminist, and they were trying similar shit - basically saying his ousting happened too fast, and that because it was ~only mild harassment~ it would have been better for him to stay in the Senate....ugh.

My mind boggles at the performance of “some people like this! Don’t be so sensitive! Why should I have to remember to ask permission?”

I have an aversion to people kissing me on the mouth without permission should I have to can that if I want to work in politics?

True, and some people are overly flirty or familiar without getting really gross. But I’ve known plenty of “kissers,” none of whom went about it with an open mouth.

If Franken was innocent, then he woulda told Schumer to go piss up a rope. He wasn’t, and did the honorable thing by getting out before the GOP could seize the narrative.

I mean, she’s doing a pretty good job of making herself happen. I don’t think AV Club is really moving her needle for her.

That’s enough Frank

I guess I just don’t see this as all that complicated as is being posed here. Some people like being touched, some don’t. And that’s why you ask before you touch someone.

He quit before the "due process" process could process his case. But, nice try.

I hope you appreciate the gesture.

Yeah, this article was weird all around. Mayer’s angle is that Franken was railroaded. Problem is, she doesn’t have the story.

Y’know, if Franken wanted due process so much, he could have stayed in office and demanded an investigation. It’s almost like he really wanted to duck out of the public eye for a while, then use his media connections to rewrite history to make himself seem more sympathetic!

a) I am so goddamn happy to see Missy again.

I read the article. I’m very liberal in my politics, liked Franken & loved that he backed Jeff Sessions into a corner. I believe the women. He obviously is one of those touchy feely grabby guys just like Bush senior was. I play cards with a group & one of the husbands is always trying to hug me & put his arm around

Let me preface this with saying, I would have liked to see Frankin go through the ethics process if for no other reason to see if we as a society can come up with gradations of punishment for gradations of transgressions.

I wonder if we’re not all just playing that old game where we whisper secrets around a room to see how much they change from beginning to end.  I was so frustrated for you, Anna, reading through this story. And the hills some people will choose to die on!  I was part of a minor scandal that made the papers for a
