Acronyms are pronounced as words, so saying “snez” or “sness” would be the acronymic way to say it. Initialisms are spelled out. “S-N-E-S” would be an initialism. Either way seems to be accepted. Semantics, I know.

I’m 30, and the first big news story I remember is the 92 LA riots. I was 6, and I remember crying out of fear and confusion. I lived in Mississippi, but my dumb 6 years old brain took no comfort in being so far from LA.
