I had similar experience with my friends. I upgrade my phones annually, and whenever I upgrade my phone, my friends ask me if they can have my old phone. Well... It can be sold for $300. Why would I give this to them for free, if I don't give them $300 cash?

A while ago, I interviewed a guy who had M.S. degree on Computer Science. I asked him if he had ever dealt with OS that didn't have virtual memory. He didn't know what virtual memory was.

My 401K (Fidelity) has an option to annually increase the contribution automatically. I timed it so that my contribution will increase by 1% when I get my annual raise. We usually get 3% annual raise, so I will see some increase on my pay check while my contribution goes up as well.
When I first got a 'real' job 7 years ago, my aunt congratulated me and gave me $1000 to buy a nice suit. I spent that money on many t-shirts, jeans, and some collar shirts. I still regret that decision and still don't have a nice suit.
