Yup. In Canada, the airlines over fill seats all the time. Then they ask if people will give up seats for a voucher, usually for hundreds of dollars on top of the price of their ticket. And if they have to stay over night in the city they’re in, they’ll give them a hotel stay to boot.

I couldn’t agree more. I did something like this many years ago when trying to get from Oslo to Vienna for a reasonable price. It was a bit different though - a round trip was cheaper than a one-way trip so I booked the round trip and didn’t take the flight back to Oslo.
