I didn’t realize they had K-mart in Australia.

Yup. The guy Eddie has a mega yachet he has named The Fountainhead. Basically he is a douche bag who could have made a profitable company and been competition for Target(another Midwestern company) but will instead be known as the d-bag who killed Sears. I get he just wants money but don’t wealthy(1% of the 1%, shit

Sears was assassinated, basically.

Hey, with the recognition that these are meaningless words from an Internet stranger, best of luck to you and your husband, as well as his co workers. Sending you guys a virtual hug, and I hope he’s able to find a job soon.

Sears/Kmart is the case study for the lethality of Objectivism in business. Sears made two mistakes, 24 and 22 years ago: they ended the catalog model, and failed to transition the print catalog to a web model (despite having their origins in mail order). Ever since, they’ve been losing. Amazon got some of Sears’

Sears stopped making their own appliances a while back, I believe. They’re all made in the same garbage appliance factories in China that make Whirlpool and Frigidaire crap. When it comes to appliances now, you basically have two choices: junk that you’ll replace every 5 years, or spend a pretty penny on

It’s almost stunning that Sears’ leadership was so inept that they never made the logical jump from a thriving catalog business to eCommerce. I guarantee you that after he conquered books and set his sights on retailing everything else, Jeff Bezos was asked on at least one occasion “So is it like Internet Sears?”.

Not to mention the fact that many people believe the hedge fund CEO has been deliberately engineering the demise of these stores, mostly so he can profit from the best asset Sears has left — their real estate properties.

My company works with Sears, and people in my company will absolutely lose their jobs. Some of them will be able to move to other clients but some won’t. They’re well paying service jobs, and not easy just go find another one.

They were Ayn Rand-ed to death. About a decade ago they got taken over by a hedgefunder who restructured the company so that every department was a separate entity, so various divisions were always competing against each other. To get an add in the weekly circular, divisions had to pay for placement.

Thank you.

The thing about Sears was you could get that great stuff wherever you were, due to huge catalog business that shipped everywhere.

Yeah, people love to see “corporate America” die but rarely consider that the bigwigs who ran the business into the ground will be fine. As always, it’s the rank and file employees who will suffer.

Thank you very much. The snark is uncalled for, and I can’t imagine why it’s happening. Every article for the past weak is so unnecessarily provocative, followed by such bile it feels like I’m at you tube.

I’m having a hard time digesting all the glee at the idea of Sears and Kmart closing. I keep thinking of the people that work there and clearly need their jobs. And when I want to buy major appliances and mattresses I go to Sears. Sure, I can go to other places, but what about all those people who will be

Once upon a time Sears had everything for everybody.

Yeppers to this comment. All the Dump minions are doing everything they can to destroy the American worker, just like Repuglicans generally for the past 36 years. Duped people, sad!

I went to Sears Driving School. Yeah. They had a driving school. My instructor used to drive security limousines and was crazy.

I can’t tell you the last time I set foot in a Sears. We have a KMart in my town and it’s a huge shithole that I’ve been in one time...maybe 2 and it was terrible.

This was a classic private equity takeover, sell-off-the-parts, then bankrupt the company deal, engineered by none other than our new Secretary of the Treasury, STEVE MNUCHIN.
