I was discussing this with Meanie-Pants and I feel that the term gypsy is widely understood as including more than Romani. I actually think the modern day resurgence of the word Romani was a effort on their behalf to distance themselves from the work gypsy.

While it has a racial foundation gypsy doesn’t really have a specifically racial component in todays usage. A gypsy is a traveller, not necessarily a Romani or Gyptian (I have only met Irish gypsies for instance).

Absolute tosh. There is no reason to believe that the space after a sentence should be longer or a period doesn’t already adequately denote the end of a sentence. Hell, you could even argue that being smaller the full-stop leaves more space but it would be irrelevant.
