Unrealistic film. If everything is legal for a night, every single suburban homeowner is gonna be too busy putting in an over-height sunroom without permit review to do a rampage.
You don’t write down your ten or so ideas and then try to write your way through it because if your great idea is in the movie you get a bonus. You look at how to write a good story and make it into a coherent script.
They put it in because at the brainstorming session somebody suggested it, people made the mind blown gesture and failed to run it by a 10-year old to make sure it made sense.

I’ll say this in defense of ScarJo: It’s clear that she studied the anime. Her body language and facial movements and vocal inflections were, in my opinion, totally faithful to the anime.
