I think that Ghostbusters II has a lot of merit, despite the obvious similarities in the structure of the plot. The details are what makes the sequel great, in my opinion. The Ghostbusters are hardly anonymous by the beginning of the sequel, they're disgraced. I would draw a difference.

Took the words right out of my mouth. It's cool to see Venkman and Spengler working together like that, considering how little they have in common normally. Spengler is calculating furiously in his head, and Venkman looks for the number he has to "sell" to the Sedgewick guy.

I loved this article, it captures (see what I did there?) a lot of my own thoughts on the Ghostbusters franchise perfectly.
