Some of the character are straight-up bad, but some are pretty good as far as Japan goes. I like the former detective one who protects sex workers in Yakuza 4. They still wouldn’t hit the mark in the west but at least they’re good people and not complete jokes.

There are women he respects but the list of women who even attempt to fight without a gun in the series basically begins and ends with Miss Tatsu. Minus a surprising number of trans characters who nobody in the game ever seems to recognize as women.
