That’s not true. There are story missions with optional multiplayer. They let you use bots though.

It was absolutely, unquestionably, unarguably a demo. You don’t have a beta five minutes before the game releases and weeks after it has gone gold. 

It’s one plot point, it doesn’t show much of anything.
