As an owner of a new C63S I can very well tell you that no one thinks the guy in a decade old S55 has money.

It doesn’t matter how poor you are. If you’re seen in a Wagoneer on Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket you look as rich as old money can get.

I’ve owned seven different AMGs all purchased new and regularly push them in the appropriate situations.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this poser-mobile around Mclean...

For $23k I think a well maintained and mint-condition 996 wouldn’t be a bad buy. I’ve owned three 996s and I’ve never had a IMS failure. I’d be happy recommending a well looked after 996.

I bought my first AMG in 2004 when my kids stopped fitting in the back of the 993 C4S I used on a daily bases. I ordered a C55 AMG and I ever since then I’ve been absolutely in love with everything AMG. I’m on my third one now, a E63 Wagon that is currently for sale if anyone wants it.

Back in 2008 a friend of a friend was selling cars from his collection and one of them happened to be a XJ220.. He was approaching asking $160k if I remember correctly. I can’t believe they’re already approaching half a million.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m all for buying an out of warranty highly depreciate German luxury car. In fact I did just that with my C55 AMG Mercedes.
