Lancia Scorpion. 81HP, 0-60 12.4 seconds 0-100 56 seconds 1/4 mile 18.9 seconds top speed 107mph Theoretically with governor removed.

The first gen Dodge Avenger, you know the DSM variant. It’s the age old question of - What happens when you take Mitsubishi Gallant and try to make it sporty?

Now playing

This entire genre of “econosport” in the early 90s falls into this category. Motorweek did a great comparo in 1992:

First generation Dodge Avenger in the 90's, a sporty looking car from a brand with a deep performance history... with the hottest available drivetrain being a 155 hp 2.5L V6 4 speed automatic shared with the Stratus Sedan. Would think with the shared platform and interiors it would have at least shared the much

Whatever this is:

I present to you the 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo Intimidator Edition. It delivers all the intimidation that a 200hp, FWD, 4 speed auto can possibly give. This has to be one of the biggest poseur badge jobs in history.

They had to maintain the GM tradition of putting out garbage, perfecting it, and then cutting it once perfected because everyone just remembered the garbage that came first.

Since this is going to be a parade of I-didn’t-understand-the-question answers I’m going to say the Pontiac Sunfire.

The Pontiac Fiero:

I’m a little late to today’s game, but haven’t seen anyone post the greatest of all wagons, the Vista Cruiser. My fav because I grew up in it, is the 1968. Unique to that year nose and cleaner lines than the first gen. Not ours, but same color combo.

Volvo 850R. I came sooo close to buying one. MSRP was $38K and my FIL got them all the way down to $29,911. Wife put the kabosh on it because it was to be her DD. I mean, look at this.

The last BOF wagon, a master of the road, in Blue Brothers parlance “cop motor, cop suspension, cop shocks”, can fit up to 9 passengers, and tow! The Buick Roadmaster was basically a culmination of lessons learned from all of it’s predecessors. It was easy to work on, had an appropriate amount of power to haul around

The V70R is already in here…though the wrong generation. I’ll take the first gen. So I’ll submit the car I legitimately lusted after in high school. Yep…while everyone else had sports cars or pickups, I wanted a wagon. Specifically the 850R. Just look at how amazing this thing is:

Nice, but I think Olds designed the better barge.

Like the Accord wagon suggestion, affordable and right-sized with potential for fun wins in my book.

You are right, but boomers.

Ford thunderbird. Two doors. V8 rear wheel drive yet somehow about the same performance of a front wheel drive buick regal..

The Mercury Capri. In an attempt to chase the Miata they made a heavy, slow, FWD!!!! car that was no fun to drive

Ford Escort LX Sport

M.I.A.T.A. is normally correct, but this time, its stupider bigger brother wins.

The Mazda MX6 only made ~160 HP out of its 2.5 liter V6. Its interior made Oldsmobile look exciting and fresh. It was built like a bistro but handled like a steakhouse. This thing was supposed to give Integras a run for their money. It
