Having an all powerful government that provides all the services you describe sounds good, but you end up with stagnant societies in which there is little social mobility, little innovation, little creation of new wealth, relatively higher unemployment and much more power in the hands of a few.

That is one approach, what one might call forced charity from taxpayers. The other approach is to keep government out of it and rely on private free giving.  Our government was created with the philosophy that government per se had to be controlled and not become too powerful, because of its nature.

If you want to refurbish an agency, do you choose someone with long experience working in it to do that? Or is the FAA a well run, effective agency that only needs a few minor tweaks to move forward? The keep shooting is good advice. I would add “controlled failure”. Nothing like learning from failure, so deliberately repeat shots with different, even extremely different, settings, to get a feel for the impact of a parameter.

Many places have laws that say if you allow access for 365 days in a year, you lose the right to restrict access afterwards. So private roads are chained off for a week or so each year. If the previous owners allowed unfettered access for decades, there should be no argument.

Yes, my 104 year old Mom takes no drugs. I have asked doctors and nurses about this and they show no surprise - it is not unusual, those who have problems that needed treatment were eliminated earlier.

My Mom is 104. See the smile on her face when she eats ice cream or holds a new born great great grandchild and you will not have to speculate so much about quality of life and living in twilight.
