I thought the same, although a new players experience is probably much different than someone who’s played past titles.

I am the exact opposite. Voice overs are one of those things that tip over into annoying very quickly, and bad voice acting will absolutely ruin anything. Maybe it’s because I grew up with text based games, but I almost always prefer it.

Suikoden 1 is still a classic, but definitely rough around the edges. At least the English version is. The localization is pretty rough by modern standards. I have the biggest nostalgia for Mystical Ninja. I can only half remember it but I recall it being so funny and bizarre back when I played it. I haven’t played it since I was 12, I’d love to revisit.

Most longtime players will know Amano, Nomura, and Yoshida, but there must be so many artists and designers at the Square over the years that were integral to Final Fantasy’s success. It’s nice to see a spotlight on a lesser sung hero of one of my all time favorites.
