Well your wife is Southeast Asian. East Asians are mostly Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. There is a large physical difference between Southeast and East Asians. Of course, it'd be hard for those of European or African descent to discern the difference.

The main advantage of e-ink is that it is opaque. If something is opaque, it generally cannot be backlit.
