They fly way closer than that to each other on a regular. I mean they have to get close enough to a c130 to do this so they get plenty of training to fly close.

In Los Angeles? Anybody dumb enough to shoot at those things on US soil is in for a bad time. And it would take a lot more than an AR or a pistol to take one of those down.
