Different circumstances. The wii sold a lot of units at first; the wii u did not. The Wii launched at a cheap price; the wii u did not. People were enthralled by the possibility of motion controls; people look at the wiiu and say "I have a touch device already, why do I need this, what is the point"?

The reason the 3ds found new life was due to nintendo aggressively cutting the price early on in its life (which they could afford because the 3ds didnt cost that much to manufacture). Its all about the give in take. Its like spelunky or dark souls. You can poke at it forever and get nothing, but if you really put in an effort and a decent amount of time you'll get the best kind of satisfaction from it. Even the simplest of achievements become satisfying.

Konami, to my knowledge, isnt known for putting stuff out on PC. Im guessing they are paranoid and implemented an always online DRM to prevent piracy (which will, most likely, be a futile pursuit). I could be totally wrong though, but an always online bug seems like a really weird bug that could never happen.
