When I read the part about releasing the first half of the game, I immediately assumed it meant backers were only getting the first half and had to pay more to get the rest

OHH, I read this too furiously the first time. I thought they were only releasing the first half to backers. It doesn't really matter if they're putting the first half on steam early access.
