The problem is assuming that what works for Batman will work for all superheroes. Gritty realism works with Batman because underneath it all, Batman tales are procedurals with an insane billionaire at the helm. You can't say the same about Superman.

The episode pretty much encapsulates everything about this particular series: well-shot in certain places, very strong character work, to the point that the plot suffers, and the Doctor himself, while being given the chance to do everything, does nothing.
