First Gear: EVs are transforming cars. $100k EVs have performance that is more than what any non-race driver can access. We are getting to the Syndrome point with super cars as a result.

I don’t think it can get much cheaper for Ford. They don’t have near the in house EV stuff as Tesla. They are likely paying more for batteries and drivetrains.

Agreed on all points (questions). I mean, we can argue back and forth all we want about how good the quality is on Tesla’s vehicles or whether or not their direct sales approach is right for the mass market, but volume-wise, the Model 3 is right in there with lots of other vehicles.

remembering the good old days where it seems everyone worked at the plant.

1st Gear: ““High-volume electric vehicles” don’t really exist at the moment, but here’s hoping they will soon.”

The “E” at least indicates something tangible.

Looks like a 2 door hatchback with wheels/wheel wells that are way too big to me.

20 bucks says it would literally be cheaper to import all of our steel from other countries and have the government send all those workers to college for a new degree before paying for them to move to a new location.

you’ll get better performance, efficiency and not lose too much utility.”

4th: I’m the target buyer for a small/mid-size EV with a hatch. I would dig the ID.4, but VW has a long and sordid, nasty history. From Nazism to racism to destroying the planet with dieselgate.

Quick question. I’m no fanboy, but Tesla sold 161,100 units of its Model 3 in CY2019 (says GoodcarBadcar), almost exactly the same number as Ford Explorer (168,309, says Car and Driver) and more than Fusion.

Yeah the Model Y is priced much higher and also has no subsidies at this point. That said it has much better performance but if you aren’t looking for that there’s no reason to cross shop. Although if I were looking at an ID4 I would also look at a Model 3. That will be not much more and you’ll get better performance,

2nd: what do you mean the steel industry isn’t doing that well? Inconceivable. Trump said the hefty tariffs would increase steel production. They haven’t? Steel production was higher back in 2014? Well damn it, you’re making it sound like he’s full of crap.

Thats a really cool-looking car. I wonder how close to concept this is going to be when it comes off the line. Probably lose the suicide doors, I’d imagine.

Live here. Agree. Southeast Michigan only sensible part. The rest of the state worships Governor Ted Nugent.

Yep but the state wont care because Rivian will be fucked for years while it works through the court just like Tesla was screwed for years. I mean Tesla has been trying to sell Model S’ since like 2013 and they are now just allowed to.

The Rivian sales ban is a Republican Thing.

They aren’t choosing to give Tesla a different set of rules. They are being forced to because they lost in court. Rivian will probably win too but they will need to drag the state into court like Tesla did.

With a cactus that is on fire.

Fuck the dealer lobby
