Better than their Bavarian compatriots, who may not be long for this world, but they’ve got to watch out as well.

None of Tesla's vehicle programs cost more than the typical new ICE platforms do to develop; Tesla actually got a lot done for relatively little money, they just didn't have any to start with.

More car for your money with a Bolt vs a 3? How does that work exactly? I guess if you really have a thing for B segment compacts?

“Elon doesn’t give a crap”

Every manufacturer is 2-6 years behind Tesla.

I don’t think any of the entrenched automakers quite realize exactly how far behind they are on the software front. Too many years of outsourcing pretty much all their software has left them in a position where they don’t even know the extent of what they don’t know.

“Tesla is two years ahead in terms of computing and software architecture, and in autonomous driving as well,”

Its unfortunate that so much of the American population shuns EVs. Here it is, the US is leading the way with EVs with Tesla, Rivian, GM etc. Its our chance to regain some respect on the global stage, but we are going to let it slip away with a lack of support. Tesla can’t do it alone - especially when it comes to

Because then you are not pushing the ICE motors.

No manufacturer has beaten the 265 mi range of the original 2012 Model S.

I cannot believe that BMW, Mercedes, VW and so on whom are all many, many magnitudes bigger than Tesla, who have a huge war chest of cash to play with, with engineering, development and testing facilities around the world cannot come up with a Tesla competitor.

But the way those aforementioned companies are going about

“Grumpy old man”, also virulent anti-Semite.

I don’t think Tesla is going anywhere. They may not be able to stay independent, but even then they’ll easily find a willing merger or partner. They’ve built up too much brand appeal. And remember, Tucker only built about 50 vehicles.

Agreed, props to the CEO. It might not be “best” for their stock price, but it is best for the employees to hear an honest assessment of where they are, as a good challenge will motivate the best employees to really give their best to close that gap.  And actually closing that gap will be way better for the stock

$25k more/ 45% less range. A true lose/lose.

Finally, a CEO with the cojones to admit it. Unfortunately its a 2 year head start that keeps constant- as Tesla keeps pushing R&D forward.

Just wait until the real car makers get in the electric market...then keep waiting

The Pontiac Aztek: the perfect choice for the star car of Dumbass Donald’s jerkoff force.

Shhhhhh, Jalopnik people want to complain about something. Don’t get in the way with that logic.
