If I read the scene right (he had just robbed his partner & was running when there was a flash of lightning & a hail of ice), at the time he got his power he was being greedy/paranoid.  So the power he got was an amplification of who he primarily "was" at the time he got zapped, not what he (or any of us) would have

I'm picturing the cameramen (or especially the audio techs!) slipping a knife that points the wrong way into Carla's kit - "hopefully she severs something vital, so we don't have to film her for an entire season!"

I think Dexter's rationale to himself has been that he "needs" to kill people (to placate his dark passenger & relieve the inner pressure that builds up) but that he doesn't actually "like" (or enjoy, or otherwise derive pleasure from) doing so.

Struck by the same thing, but then again it sets up the "I'm gonna die of Ryan's Disease, how did I not see that coming" scenario.  Which was totally awesome and also wouldn't have worked otherwise.
