@RandomThought: I don't see the distinction. Either way, it's exploring a new/different world. The fact that such exploration may affect the side of the portal the traveler came from is not in itself a bad thing.

Right... and for a very long time it was also thought that stars with planetary systems were extremely unlikely to exist, except that now we're finding exoplanets by the bucket.
